OTC 33.1: Rest

Rest? Of course I rest. I sleep at night. Most of the time. And I take naps. When I'm tired enough. Yeah, okay, maybe my sleep pattern is kind of messed up, but I don't miss classes. Much. Anymore. And I don't fall asleep in class--well, except for calculus, but can you blame me? People who get ten hours sleep through that class.

Maybe I never really readjusted my sleep patterns after I quit. I mean--yeah, for a while I did, partly because Traya was my roommate and she needed more sleep. I felt bad being up on the computer or whatever when she was sleeping. But I'm just--used to staying up late. I do my homework better after midnight. I don't know why. Maybe because I know I'm not likely to get interrupted?

I mean--I get up and go to school. And then I go to practice, and I'm pretty much there until dinner, and then I go back to the room and hello--no one gets homework done between dinner and nine or ten, anyway. Or--none of the girls here. When Cassie lived with me, we definitely didn't. So that leaves late night for doing homework, and I like it that way. It's quieter and I can concentrate better.

And, you know, when Cassie lived with me, I knew she'd be coming back to the room in the middle of the night. So maybe I didn't really fall asleep--not deeply, anyway--until she was back. It's not like I sat up waiting. Except maybe for a while before she left... It's more like... Well, sometimes I needed to be able to wake up when she came in, depending on what--if anything--happened. And then, yeah, she left, so you'd think I'd learn to sleep when I wound up with no roommate. I just... I don't know. That's when I do my homework.

Sometimes I wait for Tim to get in from patrol before I fall asleep, yeah. Not always, and so what? It's not a big deal if I want to talk to my boyfriend before I fall asleep, is it? I mean, yeah. Of course I like knowing that he got through patrol and is okay. But that doesn't mean that's why I stay up. It's not like I'm waiting up for him. I'm usually up that late anyway, or close enough to it that another half hour or so doesn't matter.

Anyway--I do get plenty of rest. If I need more, I sleep more. I crash a little earlier or take a longer nap in the evening or something. It's not something anyone needs to worry about.

Get some sleep, Cissie. I can afford to be awake now because I learned some meditation tricks from Batman - and because Calculator, obessive-compulsive that he is, is going to be sending his contracts out in ninteen minutes time. And also both Dinah and Shiva. You won't be much use to anyone if you don't.
...
Your calculus teacher seems to be really, really boring. I'm not sure whether it's the dull monotone or that he is less animated than one of Gotham's gargoyles. I threw something together that might help you with calculus, if not with making the lessons interesting.

I was finishing my history paper?

He really is. I think it might be a combination of the two--once, he taught an entire class without turning away from the chalkboard once.

...Wow--thanks, Barbara! I actually got that.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Of course you did :) All calculus is is working out how things change relative to other things. And you already know how an arrow moves over time. I probably shouldn't tell her that the air resistance equations I threw in at the end are normally only done by Physics or Engineering Seniors at college.

And I remember all-nighters with Katarina at College. Seriously, get some sleep. You'll produce a better paper that way. And Calculator's no longer working major villains - I think I've had too many of his people arrested. But Hellcat back behind bars won't be a bad thing.

[Tim or Ted can read the strikethrough if they like]

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
::laughs:: Thanks. It really did help.

I will, I will. (I get more sleep than Tim.) I'm surprised he hasn't just given up by now--you'd think he'd learn.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Any time.

If you got less sleep than Tim I'd be seriously worried. As for Calculator, he has OCD - he can't change his routines easily. Also means he doesn't make many mistakes so was at first harder to hack than Bats is.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
If I got less sleep than Tim, I'd be worried. And Tim would knock me out to make me sleep. And Calculator--yikes! At least it was a challenge for a change?

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I get plenty of challenges. This wheelchair. Trying to keep track of everything. Misfit. And there only being one of me.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Well, I meant--I didn't mean--crap.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry. It's just one of those days. Both my former mentors are being idiots. And Ashley Mavis Powell is due her first parole hearing in a few days.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry--I hate those days. How are they being idiots, if you don't mind me asking? And... I'm sorry, I don't know who that is?

[OOC: Should Cissie know who that is? If she should, ignore the question!]

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Bats is just being his brooding, prickly self (you know it's bad when I complain about those things), and The Wall appears to have have had a conscience-ectomy performed by President Luthor. Ashley Mavis Powell was the first person I ever sent to jail as Oracle, and knows enough about me to have pushed my wheelchair over in traffic to warn me off.

[OOC: Oracle: Year One]

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. Yeah--Tim's mentioned that, too. At least he doesn't discriminate? And ugh.
mrsarcastic003: (Tim and Cissie)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-17 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Ciss--you don't have to wait up for me. I know I usually call or IM you or something, but I don't want you losing sleep over me. Sleep is very important, I hear.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really not. I promise. And I like talking to you at night.

Also, the sleep thing goes both ways, my dear.
mrsarcastic003: (Thinking Tim)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-17 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Pft. I sleep when I have the time for it.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I'm not one of the people who harasses you about that, remember?
mrsarcastic003: (Tim and Cissie)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-17 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I know. Sorry. I love you.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Love you too. How about we call a truce on bugging each other about bedtimes?
mrsarcastic003: (Happy Tim)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-18 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Good idea. Besides--it does mean getting to talk to you before i go to sleep, which is the best thing in the world some nights.

[identity profile] cisskabob.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
This is very, very true.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Tim! That's how Bane broke Bats a few years back, remember. Making sure he had no sleep.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-17 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretty much. He deliberately let all the criminals out of Arkham, and by the time Batman was done rounding them all up he was in no shape to face the Riddler, let alone Bane.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry. Tim's nowhere near that state yet. I just worry that he doesn't keep anything in reserve for when there's a particularly big emergency.
mrsarcastic003: (Gargoyle Bat)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-18 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
I remember, Barbara. I'm not going to put myself in the position to get my back broken. I, at least, know when to call for help.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
When you are in over your head. And you are a bat...
mrsarcastic003: (Thinking Tim)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Which means I'm always in over my head, or I can never tell when I am?

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
By the time something's over your head it would take the entire GCPD to dig you out. And I'd need the whole of Checkmate to dig me out.
mrsarcastic003: (Thinking Tim)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-19 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
And that's why I have contacts in the GCPD. Just in case.

So I'm getting scolded... why?

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Because you are more likely to need digging out if you aren't at the top of your game. And you can't be there if you don't get enough sleep.
mrsarcastic003: (Deep in Thought Tim)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-19 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Why is everyone under the impression that I'm not getting enough sleep? I sleep. I usually get 3-4 hours before school, and another 2-3 before patrol.

[identity profile] oracle-knows.livejournal.com 2009-01-19 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
And you take 3 hours to have a full sleep cycle.
mrsarcastic003: (Deep in Thought Tim)

[personal profile] mrsarcastic003 2009-01-19 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fine--and I get uninterrupted sleep in the weekends. Usually.
