Being sick sucks

[RP with Roy (and Dick. And Tim!) Let's just say this happens after The Lube Fight?]

Cissie felt like crap. She was tired and achy and hadn't stopped coughing all day. By the time she got back to her room after classes, practice and dinner, all she wanted to do was crawl into bed under a million covers and not get up again until the weekend.

However, there were two chapters of A Tale of Two Cities to read, a history quiz to study for and twenty math problems to solve before she could. She put on her pajamas, plugged in her Christmas lights and settled in at her desk to try to work. One hour and five math questions later, she gave up and crawled into bed, huddling under her covers with Dickens.

She fell asleep halfway through the first paragraph.

"You want to adopt her?" Dick asked, surprised.

"No... yes... oh, dammit, Dick, she's all by herself and..." Roy ran a hand through his hair, "I don't know, Dick. I was alone when I was her age. I know she's not dumb like me but I know she's just a kid, like I was."

"Yeah," Dick said. "It's just...how long have you been planning this?"

"A while. Did most of the work while you were gone. Then you came back and I forgot about it for a week or so. Then I went back to it."

Dick nodded. "Well...I think it sounds like a good idea. I mean, you're a great dad."

"Yeah." Roy nodded, "I try. You going to be okay with it? What do yout hink?"

Dick nodded. "If she's okay with it, and you're okay with it, and Lian's okay with it, I'm okay with it."

"Okay." Roy sighed. "Lian's okay with it. I just gotta ask *her*, now. Already talked to her mother, too." his lips tightened.

Bonnie King-Jones was not on his good lists.

"What'd she say?" Dick asked, sinking onto the couch next to him.

Roy shrugged, "Not a whole lot." he sighed, "Wanted me to keep her away from Ollie... I pointed out that Ollie couldn't really suck much worse than she did.

"Heh," Dick wrapped his arms around Roy. "I think it's a good idea," he said. "Will she still be at school most of the year?"

"She'll be at school a lot... summers, holidays, weekends here. Unless she wants to go to a regular school or something." Roy said, hugging his lover, "Thanks, Dick."

"Yeah," Dick said. "Does Lian know?"

"I asked her what she thought about having Cissie be her big sister for real... she was so happy... didn't really want to keep it a secret but I told her it was a present, like for Christmas, and that maybe Cissie wouldn't want to live with us but she'd always be her sister." Roy gave a half-smile.

"I'm continuing the proud tradition of collecting kids."

Dick grinned. "You're a better parent than most of the ones who do it," he said.

"Ollie wasn't bad when he was around." Roy shrugged.

"Yeah, and Bruce had his moments," Dick said. "I still think you're better with Lian than either of them were with us."

"I've had her longer... she grew up with my quirks and plans around them." he smiled a little.

"Still," Dick hugged him. "You've done great with her."

Roy stroked Dick's hair, "Thank you." he said softly.
